Setting Up the Controller and Agent Functionality

Updated: June 2010

You set up your controller and agents by using the installation file located on the Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Test Load Agent installation disk. The file is named setup.exe and is located at the root of the CD.

NoteNote:

The controller and agent functionality is only available in the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Load Agent product, not in Visual Studio Team System. You can purchase Visual Studio Team System Test Load Agent where you purchased Visual Studio Team System.

Some important notes about installation are as follows:

  • You cannot install a test controller on a domain controller.

  • You must install the controller before you install any agents.

  • You must be a member of the local Administrators group to perform the installation.

Before you start to install the controller or agents, review the installation guide, which contains information about how to install Visual Studio Team System Test Load Agent. You can open the installation guide by clicking the link on the first page of the setup application, or by opening the file installguide.htm located at the root of the CD.

The installation guide contains the following information:

  • Supported Operating Systems

  • Hardware Requirements

  • Supported Configurations

  • Performance Considerations

  • SQL Sizing Considerations

  • Test Rig Software Requirements

  • Test Rig User Accounts

  • Requirements for Workgroups

  • Accessing the Controller

  • Team Test Load Controller Installation

  • Team Test Load Agent Installation

The installation guide contains information to help you troubleshoot the installation of your controller and agents. For more information about how to troubleshoot, see Troubleshooting Controllers, Agents, and Rigs.
