Referencing Data Sources
A data source object represents a connection to a data store. Data source objects are created separately from the packages that use them. After you create a data source object, you can use it in Integration Services packages by creating a connection manager that references the data source object. For more information, see Data Source (SSIS) and Using Data Sources in Packages.
Data source views are created separately. A data source view is built on a data source object, and when you add a connection manager that references the data source object, the data source views built on that object are automatically available to use in the package. For more information, see Data Source View (SSIS) and Using Data Source Views in Packages.
If you want to use data source objects that were created in other projects, you must first add them to the Integration Services project. If you add a data source object, you can also add the data source view objects that are built on the data source object.
When you add a data source object to an Integration Services project, the item is added to the Data Sources folder. If the item is a data source view object, the item is added to the Data Source Views folder.
