Remarks

The Microsoft Search full-text indexing service enables full-text queries on data maintained by Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and later. Microsoft Search both builds the indexes providing full-text query capability and participates in query resolution by providing result data during a full-text query.

With the FullTextService object, you can:

  • Start or stop Microsoft Search.
  • Configure the Microsoft Search service.
  • Perform full-text catalog maintenance as required.

To configure Microsoft Search using the FullTextService object, the connection must be a member of the Windows Administrators group.

The ConnectTimeout, IsFullTextInstalled, and ResourceUsage properties of the FullTextService object are only compatible with SQL Server version 7.0 or later. However, the SQLServer2 object supports the IsFullTextInstalled property in SQL Server 2000 and later.
