RegistryProxy Class

Provides properties and methods for manipulating the registry.

Namespace:  Microsoft.VisualBasic.MyServices
Assembly:  Microsoft.VisualBasic (in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll)

[HostProtectionAttribute(SecurityAction.LinkDemand, Resources = HostProtectionResource.ExternalProcessMgmt)]
public class RegistryProxy

The RegistryProxy type exposes the following members.

Public propertyClassesRootReturns a RegistryKey type which provides access to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Public propertyCurrentConfigReturns a RegistryKey type which provides access to HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG.
Public propertyCurrentUserReturns a RegistryKey type which provides access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Public propertyDynData Obsolete. Returns a RegistryKey type, which provides access to HKEY_DYNDATA.
Public propertyLocalMachineReturns a RegistryKey type, which provides access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Public propertyPerformanceDataReturns a RegistryKey type, which provides access to HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA.
Public propertyUsersReturns a RegistryKey type, which provides access to HKEY_USERS.

Public methodEquals(Object)Determines whether the specified Object is equal to the current Object. (Inherited from Object.)
Protected methodFinalizeAllows an object to try to free resources and perform other cleanup operations before it is reclaimed by garbage collection. (Inherited from Object.)
Public methodGetHashCodeServes as a hash function for a particular type. (Inherited from Object.)
Public methodGetTypeGets the Type of the current instance. (Inherited from Object.)

To use these properties, you must have Read and Write permission from the RegistryPermissionAccess enumeration. Any code running with full trust (under the default security policy, this is any code installed on the user's local hard drive) has the necessary permissions to access the registry. For more information, see the RegistryPermission class.

The following table lists examples of tasks involving the My.Computer.Registry object.

The HostProtectionAttribute attribute applied to this type or member has the following Resources property value: Resources. The HostProtectionAttribute does not affect desktop applications (which are typically started by double-clicking an icon, typing a command, or entering a URL in a browser). For more information, see the HostProtectionAttribute class or SQL Server Programming and Host Protection Attributes.

This example reads the value Name from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyApp and displays it in a message box.

Dim readValue As Object
readValue = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue(
  "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyApp", "Name", Nothing)
MsgBox("The value is " & CStr(readValue))
