Use a Template to Build an Image in Image Builder Wizard (Standard 8)

7/8/2014

Learn how to use a template and Image Builder Wizard (IBW) to build your Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) image.

Image Builder Wizard (IBW) is the fastest and easiest way to build an image. You can use IBW to create and build a new image, or to build a new image from an existing template.

Prerequisites

  • You have booted into IBW on your target hardware device.
  • Your templates are located in the IBW subfolder, in the Templates folder in the catalog.

To use a template to build an image in Image Builder Wizard

  1. Start IBW on the target hardware device.

    Note

The Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) setup process performs several verifications, which rely on the target device's date and time settings. For optimal performance, confirm that the target device is set to the correct date and time.

  2. Click Build an Image.

  3. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms. If you accept the terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click the Next button.

  4. By default, the Use a Template option is selected in IBW. Select the template that you want to use, and then click the Next button.

  5. Select a language to install from the drop-down list and then select a time and currency format. If required, select a keyboard or input method, and then click the Next button.

  6. If required, modify the drivers and features to be installed with your image, and then click the Next button.

  7. Select a partition on which to install Standard 8, and then click the Next button.

  8. The installation begins and shows the Installation Progress page. After the installation is complete, your device restarts using the new Standard 8 image.

Next Steps

After you build an image using IBW, the next step is to deploy the image to the target hardware device(s). For more information about how to deploy images, see Deploy Images.
