Configure the Connection to a Device Using Connectivity Manager (Compact 7)

3/12/2014

From Connectivity Manager, you can change the way in which a device communicates with a development computer. The default communication method is the kernel independent transport layer (KITL) transport. You can also use the TCP transport to connect to a device that may not have KITL availability. In addition to selecting a transport type, you can also select a startup server that provides the initial communication with your device before the full transport communication is initiated.

The following procedure describes how to set the communication properties for a Connectivity Manager-defined device in remote tools.

To configure the connection to a device by using Connectivity Manager

  1. In Visual Studio, on the Tools menu, point to Remote Tools, and then click Remote Tools Shell.

  2. In the Remote Tools Shell window, on the Connection menu, click Manage Devices.

  3. In the Connectivity Manager Configuration dialog box, expand the node for the device that you want to configure.

  4. Select the device that you want to use, and then click Properties.

  5. In the Transport box, select a transport, and then click Configure.

For more information, see Transport Communication Types.

  6. In the Startup box, select a startup server, and then click Configure.

For more information, see Startup Server Selection Options.

  7. Test the new settings by clicking Test.

  8. Click OK to save the settings.
