How to: Edit Specific Charts

In addition to generic charts that you create and manage from the Generic Charts window, Microsoft Dynamics NAV includes several specific charts that you cannot create from scratch, but that you can edit to varying degrees.

Some specific charts, such as Trailing Sales Orders, only offers options to change how the predefined source data are displayed in the chart.

In more advanced specific charts, such as Finance Performance, you can edit existing charts or set up new variations by combining account schedule lines and columns in multiple ways to provide a large number of different financial performance indicators.

The following procedure is based on the Finance Performance window in the Role Center, but it also applies to the Sales Performance chart, for example.

To edit a specific chart

  1. Open the Role Center that shows the chart that you want to change.

  2. Choose Select Chart.

  3. In the Account Schedule Chart List window, choose New to create a new finance chart based on account schedule values. Alternatively, select an existing chart and choose Edit to change the setup of the chart.

  4. In the Account Schedules Chart Setup window, on the Data Source FastTab fill in the fields as described in the following table.

    Field Description

    Name

Enter the name of the chart.

    Account Schedule Name

Select the account schedule that you want to base the chart on.

    Column Layout Name

Select the column layout name in the account schedule that you selected in the Account Schedule Name field.

    Base X-Axis on

Select if the values on the x-axis of the chart are based on account schedule lines, account schedule columns, or summed in periods. For more information, see Base X-Axis on.

Specify the first date on which account schedule values are included in the chart.

    End Date

Specify the last date on which account schedule values are included in the chart.

You can also change the period by choosing the Period Length button on the chart itself and selecting between five periods lengths.

    No. of Periods

Specify how many periods to show in the chart.

You can only edit this field if you have selected Period in the Base X-Axis on field.

  5. On the Measures (Y-Axis) FastTab, choose Edit to select from the list of available account schedule column, lines, or a combination of both.

If you selected Acc. Sched. Line in the Base X-Axis on field, then the Acc. Sched. Chart Setup Line window displays account schedule columns that you can select from.

If you selected Acc. Sched. Column in the Base X-Axis on field, then the Acc. Sched. Chart Setup Line window displays account schedule lines that you can select from.

    Note

The maximum of six measures are automatically selected as Column values in the Chart Type field.

If you selected Period in the Base X-Axis on field, then the Acc. Sched. Chart Matrix window displays combinations of account schedule columns and lines that you can select from. In this view, each measure represents one cell in the Acc. Sched. Chart Matrix window.

    Note

The maximum of six measures are automatically selected as Column values in six cells.

  6. To select a measure, choose the relevant field or cell, and then select the graphical style that the account schedule value is shown in. Alternatively, choose Select All.

    Note

You cannot select more than six measures at a time.

  7. Select <BLANK> in the field or cell to deselect a measure. Alternatively, choose Deselect All.

  8. Choose the OK button to return to the Account Schedules Chart Setup window.

  9. On the Dimensions (X-Axis) FastTab, choose Edit to select from the list of available account schedule column, lines, or a combination of both.

    Note

The Dimensions (X-Axis) FastTab is not shown if you selected Period in the Base X-Axis on field on the Data Source FastTab.

If you selected Acc. Sched. Line in the Base X-Axis on field, then the Acc. Sched. Chart Setup Line window displays account schedule lines that you can select from.

    Note

The maximum of six dimensions are automatically selected.

If you selected Acc. Sched. Column in the Base X-Axis on field, then the Acc. Sched. Chart Setup Line window displays account schedule columns that you can select from.

    Note

The name of the chart dimension is copied from the selected account schedule line or column name. To improve readability in the chart, you can rename the dimension name in the Account Schedules Chart Setup window.

  10. Select the check box on the lines that you want to include as dimensions on the X-axis of the chart. Alternatively, choose Select All.

    Note

You cannot select more than six dimensions at a time.

Clear the check box on the lines that you do not want to include as dimensions on the X-axis of the chart. Alternatively, choose Select All.

  11. Choose the OK button to return to the Account Schedules Chart Setup window.

    Tip

The names of the selected chart measures and dimensions are inherited from the names of the account schedule lines or columns in question. To improve readability in the chart, you can change the names in the Account Schedules Chart Setup window.

  12. Close the Account Schedules Chart Setup window to save it to the list of finance business charts that you can add to Role Centers. The charts in the Account Schedule Chart List window are user-specific.
