Subscribing to the Microsoft Translator API

The Microsoft Translator API is available through the Windows Azure Marketplace. We offer a free service usage limit of 2 million characters per month as well as paid monthly subscriptions for higher volumes.

Subscription Information

Select the subscription tier based upon your expected monthly volume capacity. If you subscribe to a tier that does not meet your needs, Marketplace allows for flexibility and you can change tiers at any time. A subscription month begins when you purchase a volume tier and it continues through to the same date the following month.

In the case where you reach your volume capacity limit within your subscription month, you can either:

  • Wait until your next subscription month begins for service to start again and your volume capacity will renew in full.

  • Re-subscribe to the same volume tier or choose to subscribe to a different volume tier.

Azure Marketplace provides a service https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Services/My/Datasets to check your balance. You need to send your live login as username and Azure account key as the password. For more details, please visit this site.

Please note that when you change tiers, it prompts Marketplace to begin a new subscription month. Any remaining volume that was not used with the previous subscription month will be lost. There are no refunds or credits and the unused volume will not be carried over to the next subscription month.

If your volume needs exceeds what is presented on the Translator API offer page, please contact the Microsoft Translator Licensing team at mtlic@microsoft.com.

Payment

When you subscribe to the Translator API service, you pay for your selected volume tier one month in advance. Payment is made by credit card only and accepted in countries currently supported on Marketplace. An overview on how to subscribe on Marketplace is detailed here.

How will I know when I reach my monthly usage limit?

If your API usage has reached the throughput limit, the API will return a "Quota Exceeded" message. You can check your usage limit in your account in the My Account/My Data on Windows Azure Marketplace.

If you receive a quota exceeded message and you believe it is an error (e.g., you subscribed to a higher tier but you have not used up your translation quota for the month) please send the error response or code snippet and the day/time it occurred to Microsoft Translator Contact at mtcont@microsoft.com.
