COM Exception During Configuration

This failure happens during configuration of profile schema manager on systems that have upgraded from Commerce Server 2009 to Commerce Server 2009 R2 .

The system returns the following error:

A registry value was changed while installing the following component into a COM+ Application. If you are experiencing activation problems with this component then please check the registry value for the following key.

Component: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Commerce Server 9.0\MSCSCfg.dll

Registry Key: CLSID\{D5DE8D20-5BB8-11D1-A1E3-00A0C90F2731}\InProcServer32

Process Name: RunDll32.exe

Comsvcs.dll file version: not loaded

This may be caused by an artifact from the previous install (the Widgets virtual directory under IIS). Complete the following steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Delete the Widgets entry from the IIS metadata. If the Widgets entry is not visible from IIS manager, you can use tools like IIS metabase explorer (included inside IIS resource Kit) to find and delete it.

  2. Run the Commerce Server Configuration Wizard again. See Commerce Server Configuration Wizard
