E-Mail Migration Users Status Report

Applies to: Office 365 for professionals and small businesses, Office 365 for enterprises, Live@edu

You can display status information for each user migrated during a cutover Exchange migration, a staged Exchange migration, or an IMAP migration. This migration information can help you troubleshoot issues that might prevent the migration of a user’s mailbox or mailbox items. You can display this migration status information for migration batches that are currently running, that have been stopped, or that are complete.

To display per-user status information for a migration batch, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Exchange Control Panel, select Manage My Organization > Users & Groups > E-Mail Migration.
  2. In the migration batch list, click the migration batch to display.
  3. In the details pane, in the Per-User Details field, click Open.

The E-Mail Migration Users window will appear.

E-Mail Migration Users Status Report

The name of the migration batch, the administrator who started it, and the date and time it was started is displayed at the top of the window. The following information about the selected migration batch is displayed:

  • Requested   The number of mailboxes migrated in the migration batch. Depending on the migration type, this field also indicates the number of distribution groups and mail contacts to be migrated.
  • Synced   The number of mailboxes that were successfully migrated. Depending on the migration type, the value for this field also indicates the number of distribution groups and mail contacts that were migrated.
  • Active   The number of mailboxes that are being actively migrated.
  • Errors   The number of mailboxes for which migration failed.

Migration users list

Each user in the migration batch is included in the list of migration users. Use the drop-down list in the Select view field to filter the migration users list.

  • All users   Displays all users in the migration batch.
  • In progress users   Displays the users who are being actively migrated.
  • Failed users   Displays the users for which migration failed.
  • Synced users   Displays the users who were successfully migrated.

Note   The migration users list displays a maximum of 500 users. If the migration batch contains more than 500 users, you can search for a specific user or filter the list of users displayed.

Columns in the list of migration users

  • E-mail Address   The user’s e-mail address.
  • Status Summary   The user’s overall migration status. The possible values are InProgress, Synced, or Failed.
  • Items Synced   The number of items in the user’s on-premises mailbox that were successfully migrated to the cloud-based mailbox.
  • Items skipped   The number of items in the user’s on-premises mailbox that weren’t migrated to the cloud-based mailbox.

View migration status information for a specific user

To view status information for a specific mailbox, mail contact, or distribution group, click it in the list. Status information for the selected mail object is displayed in the details pane. The following table describes each field displayed in the details pane.

Field Description

Status

Identifies the specific point in the migration process for each mail object in the migration batch. This status is more specific than the high-level status summary displayed in the list of migration users. The following list describes each status state for each status summary value.

InProgress

  • Queued   The object is in a migration batch that is running, but the migration of the object hasn’t started yet.
  • ProvisioningPending   The migration process has started for the mail object, but it isn’t provisioned yet.
  • ProvisioningUpdatePending   The mail object has been provisioned, but not all the object’s properties were migrated. For example, after a distribution group has been migrated, this state occurs when members of the group haven’t been migrated yet or there’s a problem migrating a user who is a member of the group. In this case, the status indicates the migration process can’t update the group membership because not all group members have been migrated.
  • Started   The migration process for the selected mail object has started.
  • FinalizeStarted   The migration process has started the process to complete the migration of the mail object. For mailboxes, this indicates that the migration process has started the final incremental synchronization.

Synced

  • Completed   The migration process successfully provisioned the cloud-based mailbox and completed the initial synchronization where all mailbox items were copied to the cloud-based mailbox. For cutover and IMAP migration, this status can also indicate that incremental synchronization completed successfully.
  • FinalizeSyncCompleted   For mailboxes, this indicates that the final incremental synchronization has successfully completed.
  • FinalizeCompleted   Indicates that all finalization tasks completed successfully.

Failed

  • Corrupted   Indicates that the migration process encountered a permanent error while trying to migrate or synchronize the mail object. The migration process will no longer try to migrate the mail object.
  • Failed   The migration or initial synchronization of the mail object failed.
  • FinalizeFailed   For mailboxes, this indicates that the final incremental synchronization failed.
  • IncrementalSyncFailed   The most recent incremental synchronization for the mail object failed.

Type

Identifies one of the following migration types:

  • Exchange   A cutover or staged Exchange migration.
  • IMAP   An IMAP migration.

Items Synced

The number of items in the user’s on-premises mailbox that were successfully migrated to the cloud-based mailbox.

Items Skipped

The number of items in the user’s on-premises mailbox that weren’t migrated to the cloud-based mailbox. For Exchange migrations, information about each item that was skipped is displayed at the bottom of the details pane for the selected user.

Transfer Rate

The average transfer rate (in bytes/MB per minute) of data copied to the cloud-based mailbox.

Note   This field isn’t included for IMAP migrations.

Bytes Transferred

The total amount of data (in bytes and megabytes) for the mailbox items that have been migrated to the cloud-based mailbox. This number includes items migrated in both the initial and incremental synchronizations. For information about initial and incremental synchronization, see:

Note   This field isn’t included for IMAP migrations.

Last Successful Sync

The last time that any new items in the on-premises mailbox were copied to the cloud-based mailbox.

Error

If the migration of the user failed, this field displays a description of the error. This error description is also included in the Migration Errors report.

Migration phases

To help you understand the migration status states described in the previous section, it’s helpful to be familiar with the phases of the migration process. The following table describes these phases and indicates whether the phase is included in each type of migration.
