Type Hierarchy Browser and Type Hierarchy Context [AX 2012]

Updated: October 20, 2011

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

You can view hierarchical information about types in Microsoft Dynamics AX by using the Type Hierarchy Context and the Type Hierarchy Browser. You can view information about the following types:

  • Classes

  • Tables

  • Maps

  • Views

  • Extended Data Types

  • Base Enums

The Type Hierarchy Tree and Type Hierarchy Context are updated based on live metadata. When you update the hierarchy of a type, the change is reflected automatically.

You use the Type Hierarchy Context to display contextual hierarchical details for a class, table, or data type in a docked pane in the developer workspace.

You can view information about the parents and children of application objects by using the Type Hierarchy Browser. For example, you can see all the classes that extend a particular class, or see which data types a particular extended data type inherits from. You can also see which types implement fields, methods, and properties.
