Troubleshoot search

Nothing happens when I click the Find a location icon or press ENTER.

Make sure that you have entered something in the Find box. Try entering a business or category, city, address, or landmark.

I can't find a place on the map.

Think of the Map settings pane as the master switch for turning on and off labels and symbols on your map. If the map does not display certain items that you expect, such as nearby places, make sure that the symbols you want are selected in the Map settings pane.

Try entering your search information differently:

  • Make sure that you are searching in the appropriate country/region. Detailed coverage for addresses, businesses and landmarks is available for all of the United States and Canada. General map information is available for locations around the world.

  • If you are looking for a location or a place in a city, type the location or place, a comma, the city name, a comma, and then the state or province name or abbreviation (for example: 123 Cherry Lane, Anytown, OH).

  • If more than one city, address, or landmark matches your search, the Find dialog box appears. You can use the Address, Place/Data, and Lat/Long tabs to narrow your search.

When I click a business name in the Search results pane, the Web page doesn't open.

Your Internet connection may not be working.

Can I sort the Search results?

The closest search result to the provided location is listed first. Other sorting options are not available.

The Search results disappeared. Are they lost?

The Search results are not lost if you close the Search results pane. If you:

  • Close the Search results pane without clearing the Search results list, you can open the pane again by pressing CTRL+K. The search results appear again.

  • Clear a Search results list or move to a new map view, your search results are removed from the Search results pane and the map. To restore your search results, run the search again.

Is there a way to save Search results?

You can save your search results by saving the current map. To retrieve saved Search results, open the saved map, and the search results appear automatically.

I can't move or change the pushpins created from Search results.

Unlike regular MapPoint pushpins, the pushpins created from Search results cannot be moved, deleted, or renamed.

The Legend and overview pane doesn't show pushpin sets created from Search results.

Pushpins created from Search results are not displayed as pushpin sets in the Legend and overview pane.
