Find places around a route

Open a map that contains a route.

On the Tools menu, click Find nearby places.

On the Standard toolbar, click the Find nearby places button

In the Find nearby places pane, the search results are sorted by category. To expand a category, click the plus sign to the left of that category.

To change the categories displayed in the Find nearby places pane, click the Categories button.

Click the Restaurants and Places tabs to switch between the restaurants and places selections.

Select the check box next to each category of restaurant or place that you want to see on the map, and then click OK.
Tip To quickly select just a few categories, click Clear all, and then select the check box next to each category that you want to see on the map.

In the Search box at the bottom of the Find nearby places pane, type or select the radius in which you want to search.

In the Around list, select what the search should be centered on.
Note The route segments and stops on your route appear by name. You can also center a search around the entire route, a selected instruction in the Directions pane, or your current location if you are using a GPS device. To find places around a specific line of instructions, double-click the instruction in the Directions pane to select that route segment on the map. Then, select Selected driving instruction in the Around list.

In the Sort list, select whether you'd like to see the results listed in alphabetical order by name or by distance (how far they are) from the selected point on the map.

Click Refresh to display a list of nearby places.

Click a place name in the results list to see its location on the map.
Tips

MapPoint has detailed information, such as the address and telephone number, for many points of interest. To display this information, right-click the point of interest, and then click Show information in the menu.

With MapPoint, you also can view points of interest in Bing Maps. Click Show in Bing Maps
while the place name is selected in the results list. - Think of the Map settings pane as the master switch for turning on and off labels and symbols on your map. If the map does not display certain items that you expect, such as nearby places, make sure that the symbols you want are selected in the Map settings pane.

To add a place that you found as a stop on your route, select the place name in the results list, and then on the Route menu, click Add as stop.
