Detour around an area

To select the area you want to avoid, right-click the map and drag the pointer to create a rectangle around the area. Then, release the mouse button.

On the Route menu, click Avoid area.
The detour area is designated by a shaded box with sizing handles.
Notes

The area you want to detour around must contain an intersection for this feature to work.

Detour areas are saved with your map. When you clear a route containing detour areas, the detour areas remain.
Tips

To distinguish detour areas from other areas on your map, you can use drawing tools to change their appearance.

You can move or resize a detour area by clicking its border and then dragging the sizing handles.

You can avoid driving on certain types of roads by setting road-type preferences to Dislike.
