Detour around an area

  1. To select the area you want to avoid, right-click the map and drag the pointer to create a rectangle around the area. Then, release the mouse button.

  2. On the Route menu, click Avoid area.

    The detour area is designated by a shaded box with sizing handles.

Notes

  • The area you want to detour around must contain an intersection for this feature to work.

  • Detour areas are saved with your map. When you clear a route containing detour areas, the detour areas remain.

Tips

  • To distinguish detour areas from other areas on your map, you can use drawing tools to change their appearance.

  • You can move or resize a detour area by clicking its border and then dragging the sizing handles.

  • You can avoid driving on certain types of roads by setting road-type preferences to Dislike.
