Change the default template

Whenever you open a new MapPoint map, the map is based on a default template (New North American Map.ptt) with specific settings. If you want to change these settings, you can do so by changing this default template. For example, you can change the default template to show custom fuel consumption and tank capacity values, save custom fuel cost values, save pushpins to the map, or save driving profile settings such as start and end driving times.

To create a default template

  1. Create a new map or modify an existing map with the features you'd like to see each time you open a new map.

    How?

  2. On the File menu, click Save as.

  3. In the Save As dialog box, click the arrow next to the Save as type box, and then choose Map template from the list.

  4. Click New North American Map.ptt.

  5. Click Save.

  6. When prompted about replacing New North American Map.ptt, click Yes to replace the MapPoint default template with your map.

To recover the default template if you're using Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows

  1. Locate the MapPoint default template by searching for New North American Map.ptt in Windows Explorer.

  2. Click New North American Map.ptt, and on the File menu, click Delete.

  3. When prompted about sending New North American Map.ptt to the Recycle Bin, click Yes.

  4. Open MapPoint to recover the default template.

To recover the default template if you're using Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7

  1. Make sure that MapPoint is set to use the Default map settings.

    How?

  2. On the File menu, click Open, and then open the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft MapPoint\19.0\Templates folder.

  3. Click the New North American Map template, press DELETE on your keyboard, click Yes, and then click Cancel.

  4. Close MapPoint and then reopen it.

  5. MapPoint reopens with the original default map.
