File formats

This topic includes reference information about supported file formats in MapPoint and the settings that are saved when you save a map or a map template.

Supported file formats

This version of MapPoint will open and read the following files (their associated file name extensions are shown in parentheses):

  • MapPoint 2011 maps and map templates (.ptm, .ptt)

  • MapPoint 2010 maps and map templates (.ptm, .ptt)

  • MapPoint 2009 maps and map templates (.ptm, .ptt)

  • MapPoint 2006 maps and map templates (.ptm, .ptt)

  • MapPoint 2004 maps and map templates (.ptm, .ptt)

  • Streets & Trips 2011 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

  • Streets & Trips 2010 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

  • Streets & Trips 2009 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

  • Streets & Trips 2008 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

  • Streets & Trips 2007 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

  • Streets & Trips 2006 maps and map templates (.est, .stt)

Notes

  • When you save a map or a map template, the file is saved in the file format for the version of MapPoint that you are currently using. Therefore, if you open a file that is not a map or a template with this version of MapPoint, and if you make changes to the file and then save the file, you can only reopen the file with the same version of MapPoint.

The following settings are saved when you save a map or a map template by using MapPoint.

Items that you created by using the drawing tools and their settings

Drivetime zones

Drivetime zones that you added to the map

Driver profiles

Driving and road preferences that you selected

GPS trail

Route that you followed based on input from your Global Positioning System (GPS) device after you select Start GPS tracking

Highlighted places

Highlighted places

Legends

Your choice to either show or hide all legend entries and their settings

Map font

Size of the text labels that you set on your map

Map settings

The map style, pushpins, fonts, or city that your map opens with

Map view

The exact view and altitude of the map that you selected

Program settings

Your choice to either show or hide all windows and task panes

Pushpins

Locations of the pushpins on your map, including any text in the associated pushpin balloons, as well as the choice that you made either to show or hide the text in pushpin balloons (show information, hide information, show name, hide name)

Routes

Starting point, stops, and ending point of routes that you created

Search results

Results from your last search

Show information settings

Your choice to either show or hide information for businesses, attractions, or pushpins on the map

Territories

Territory groups and their settings
