In Windows Embedded Compact 2013, you can support one or more of the block device drivers available in the catalog, or you can implement your own block driver to support a specialized block storage device.

Hardware and Software Requirements

  • The ATAPI PCI/IDE Storage Block Driver requires an ATA disk drive or CD/DVD-ROM drive on the hardware board.
  • The Promise Controller ATAPI Driver (PDC2026) requires a Promise PDC2026 PCI host bus adapter on the hardware board.
  • The Promise Controller ATAPI Driver (PDC40518) requires a Promise PDC40518 PCI host bus adapter on the hardware board.

Sample Block Driver

SYSGEN_RAMDISK

Provides a sample RAM-backed block driver.

Requires a driver loader (ceramdrv.exe):

  • Adding the sample block driver to your OS design provides a RAM-backed, or non-persistent, block driver. However, the driver loader is not added to your OS when you include the sample block driver in your OS design.
  • You can find the driver loader for each CPU and build type on your development computer in %_WINCEROOT%\Public\Common\Oak\Target\<CPU type>\<Build type>\, where <CPU type> is armv7 or x86, and <Build type> is checked, debug, or retail.
  • You can find the source code for the sample block driver in %_WINCEROOT%\Public\Common\Oak\Drivers\Block\Ramdisk\Driver\.
  • You can find the source code for the driver loader in %_WINCEROOT%\Public\Common\Oak\Drivers\Block\Ramdisk\Loader\.
