Policy Rules

You can configure Forefront TMG to meet your specific security and performance needs by defining and configuring rules that determine whether users, computers, or applications are granted access to computers in your network and on the Internet. Forefront TMG allows you to define several types of rules:

  • Access rules.
  • Publishing policy rules, which include server publishing rules and Web publishing rules.
  • System policy rules.

When an internal client requests an Internet object, Forefront TMG processes the rules to determine if the request is allowed.

Similarly, when an external (Internet) client requests an object from an internal server, Forefront TMG processes the rules to determine if the request is allowed.
