Add a Package to an Answer File in Image Configuration Editor

A pack, also called a package, is a collection of files and resources that make up a specific functionality. You can add feature packs, language packs, driver packs, or Embedded Enabling Feature (EEF) packs to an answer file by using Image Configuration Editor. When you add a package to an answer file, Image Builder adds the same package to the image it builds for the device. For example, after you add Command Prompt Shell with Custom Shell Support to an answer file and provide the answer file to Image Builder to build an image, the image has functionality contained in Command Prompt Shell with Custom Shell Support, which is a command prompt.

Hardware and Software Assumptions

To add a package to an answer file

  1. In Image Configuration Editor, on the Edit menu, select Find.

  2. In the Find dialog box, do the following:

    1. In Find what, type the search criteria. For example, if you are looking for a feature pack name that contains "cmd", type cmd.
    2. In Look in, select Distribution Share.
    3. Select Find Now.

    In the results window, the search feature lists packages that meet the search criteria, regardless of the package type.

  3. In Image Configuration Editor, in the Distribution Share pane, browse to the package you want to add.

    • Standard 7 feature packs are located in the Packages\FeaturePack folder of the distribution share.
    • Standard 7 driver packs are located in the Packages\Driver folder of the distribution share.
    • Standard 7 language packs are located in the Packages\LanguagePack folder of the distribution share.
    • Standard 7 EEF packs are located in the Packages\FeaturePack\Embedded Enabling Features folder of the distribution share.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • Right-click the package and then choose Add to Answer File.
    • Drag the package from the Distribution Share pane to the answer file in the Answer File pane.

    You have added a package to an answer file.
