Getting Started with Messenger Connect

Current information about Live Connect is now available in the Windows Live Developer Center. The information in the following sections is provided for legacy purposes only.

Getting Started is a step-by-step guide for setting up and exploring the Windows Live developer experience. After you have taken these steps, you can use the Getting Started samples to learn more about developing with Windows Live Messenger Connect.

Follow these steps to get started with Messenger Connect.


Register your application.

All programmatic interaction with Windows Live requires a client ID, which uniquely identifies your application with Windows Live. To register your application and obtain your client ID, see Registering Your Application with Windows Live.


Download the Windows Live SDK.

The Windows Live software development kit (SDK) is a collection of libraries, tools and other resources that you use to develop applications that interact with Windows Live. For details, see Downloading the Windows Live SDK.


Run the samples.

The Getting Started samples provide all you need to build your first Messenger Connect application. For details, see Running the Getting Started Samples for Messenger Connect.
