OAuth WRAP (Messenger Connect)

Current information about Live Connect is now available in the Windows Live Developer Center. The information in the following sections is provided for legacy purposes only.

Open Authorization Web Resource Authorization Protocol (OAuth WRAP) is an implementation of OAuth that enables users to provide consent to applications. With this consent, applications can access user information that is stored in protected resources, such as a Windows Live service.

OAuth WRAP enables applications to access a user's Windows Live information by using the Windows Live SDK. In most cases, the API libraries in the Windows Live SDK include classes and methods that handle the OAuth WRAP exchanges between applications and the Windows Live consent service.

We recommend that you use these libraries. If your application cannot use these libraries—for example, if you are developing your application in a language that is not supported by the Windows Live SDK—or if you want to learn more about how the Windows Live SDK uses OAuth WRAP, see the following topics:

You can download samples that demonstrate how OAuth WRAP works from the MSDN Code Gallery at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=201074.
