Now that you have your client ID, you are ready to download and install the Windows Live software development kit (SDK).

Arrow - Step 2 of 3

Before you download the SDK, verify that you have the following prerequisites installed on your computer:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
  • Windows Internet Explorer 8
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio 2008, or Visual Studio 2010

To download the Windows Live SDK

  1. Go to the Windows Live SDK download page and follow the instructions to download the SDK to your local computer.
  2. Extract the Windows Live SDK zip file to a folder on your local computer. The SDK includes the following items to assist you with developing applications that work with Windows Live Messenger Connect.

    Item Description

    OAuth WRAP handler

A page that provides OAuth WRAP callback handling for ASP.NET applications to process access tokens. You must use this kind of handler when you build ASP.NET solutions.

    Channel.html

An HTML page that handles cross-domain communications for client web browsers that do not have Adobe Flash Player installed and do not support the HTML 5 postMessage method. You must use this page if you are building applications by using the Messenger Connect JavaScript Library.

After you have downloaded the SDK, explore the Messenger Connect samples in the next step, Running the Getting Started Samples for Messenger Connect.
