Getting Started Sample for ASP.NET

Current information about Live Connect is now available in the Windows Live Developer Center. The information in the following sections is provided for legacy purposes only.

In this sample, you create a Microsoft ASP.NET-based project to explore basic functionality in Windows Live Messenger Connect. In creating this application, you will do the following:

  1. Configure the application for OAuth WRAP settings. Messenger Connect uses the OAuth WRAP protocol to enable users to sign in with their Windows Live credentials and then authorize your application to access Windows Live data and functionality on their behalf.
  2. Create an ASP.NET (.aspx) page and add Messenger Connect user interface controls, including the following control tags:
    • <wl:app>—Provides application-configuration information.
    • <wl:signin>—Adds sign-in functionality.
    • <wl:bar>—Add the full Windows Live Messenger experience to the application).
  3. Explore the Messenger Connect JavaScript library by adding code to enumerate user contacts.

The topics in this section guide you through these steps.
