Messenger Connect Resource Model

Current information about Live Connect is now available in the Windows Live Developer Center. The information in the following sections is provided for legacy purposes only.

The Messenger Connect resource model represents resources such as contacts, photos, and profile information. It conveys their hierarchical relationships as URI-addressable resources.

Because resources are accessible as URIs, the interaction between resources is system independent and HTTP based. The Messenger Connect resource model provides a Representational State Transfer (REST) programming model that uses standard HTTP verbs such as POST, GET, PUT, and DELETE.

The Messenger Connect resource model includes support for representational formats such as Atom, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), JavaScript Object Notation with Padding (JSONP), RSS, and Plain Old XML (POX). If you use Atom, RSS, or POX as a wire format when you execute a PUT or POST request, you must ensure that the XML elements are sorted in alphabetical order. The resource model also supports standard protocols such as the Atom Publishing Protocol (AtomPub).
