This walkthrough demonstrates how to use the Cryptography Application Block to obtain a hash for some text.

To reproduce the demonstration

  1. Declare the appropriate member variable and constants.
  2. private const string hashProvider = "hashprovider";
    private byte[] generatedHash;
  3. Obtain the text from the user.
  4. byte[] valueToHash = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes("password");  
  5. Call the static CreateHash method of the Cryptographer class to obtain the hash, supplying the name of the configured hash provider to be used.
  6. generatedHash = Cryptographer.CreateHash(hashProvider, valueToHash);
