WorksheetFunction.Norm_Inv Method

Returns the inverse of the normal cumulative distribution for the specified mean and standard deviation.

Namespace:  Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Assembly:  Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel (in Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Function Norm_Inv ( _
    Arg1 As Double, _
    Arg2 As Double, _
    Arg3 As Double _
) As Double
'Usage
Dim instance As WorksheetFunction
Dim Arg1 As Double
Dim Arg2 As Double
Dim Arg3 As Double
Dim returnValue As Double

returnValue = instance.Norm_Inv(Arg1, _
    Arg2, Arg3)
double Norm_Inv(
    double Arg1,
    double Arg2,
    double Arg3
)

Parameters

  • Arg1
    Type: System.Double

Probability - A probability corresponding to the normal distribution.

  • Arg2
    Type: System.Double

Mean - The arithmetic mean of the distribution.

  • Arg3
    Type: System.Double

Standard_dev - The standard deviation of the distribution.

Return Value

Type: System.Double

Remarks

If any argument is non-numeric, Norm_Inv returns the #VALUE! error value.

If probability <= 0 or if probability >= 1, Norm_Inv returns the #NUM! error value.

If standard_dev ≤ 0, Norm_Inv returns the #NUM! error value.

If mean = 0 and standard_dev = 1, Norm_Inv uses the standard normal distribution (see Norm_S_Inv(Double)).

Given a value for probability, Norm_Inv seeks that value x such that NORM_DIST(x, mean, standard_dev, TRUE) = probability. Thus, precision of Norm_Inv depends on precision of Norm_Dist(Double, Double, Double, Boolean).
