2.1.861 Part 1 Section 18.17.5.2, Precision

a. The standard states that m is an integer whose absolute value is less than 2^53, and n is an integer between -1075 and 970, inclusive.

Office treats m as an integer whose absolute value is greater than or equal to 2^52 and less than 2^53, and n is an integer between -1074 and 971, inclusive.

b. The standard states in a note that the default precision is patterned after the IEEE double-precision 64-bit floating-point type.

In Office, the default precision is patterned after the IEEE double-precision 64-bit floating-point type, with denormalized numbers excluded.
