IIS Smooth Streaming Media Format
[Note: This topic is pre-release documentation and is subject to change in future releases. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]
There are two primary scenarios that Smooth Streaming addresses:
On-Demand Streaming (IIS Smooth Streaming Format SDK) - Content is pre-encoded, formatted, and uploaded to the server for distribution to clients.
Live Streaming (IIS Smooth Streaming Format SDK) - The audio/video feed from a live broadcast such as a sports event is encoded and made available for viewing during the event.
The wire-format in Smooth Streaming is the same for both scenarios: f-MP4 fragments or chunks. There are differences in the manifest files.
