1.3.3 Group Connect Subprotocol

The Group Connect subprotocol is the protocol used for authenticating connections between nodes in a group. The Group Connect subprotocol sets up a TLS session and then exchanges messages to prove group membership. There are two types of exchanges, one for GMC authentication, and one for password authentication. See Sections 4.1 and 4.2 for an example of each.
