This section contains instructions for solving some of the errors that may arise when programming with the Windows Live Messenger libraries, or Messenger Web Toolkit.

The following table describes the error messages and possible ways to resolve the errors.

Error message Description

A problem with this site is preventing Messenger from working properly.

This error may occur if the application-hosted token-refresh page is unavailable.

Check the URL value for the token-url attribute of the msgr:app tag. The URL is incorrect, the token-refresh page is not properly configured, or the token-refresh page is not installed on your server. For more information about the token-refresh page, see Working with Delegation Tokens in the UI Controls.

A problem with this site is preventing Messenger from working properly (channel is misconfigured).

This error can occur if the channel URL is improperly configured. This might be due to an incorrect URL, or because the channel page is not installed on your server.

Check the URL value for the channel-url attribute of the msgr:app tag. For more details on the channel page, see Windows Live Messenger Library Development Basics.

A problem with this site is preventing you from seeing your full contact list.

This error can occur if that the application contacts ticket is invalid. This might be because the ticket is out of date, or the delegation token that was used to sign the application contacts ticket is out of date.

Verify the validity of the contacts ticket or the delegation token. For more details on application contacts, see Application Contacts.

There is a problem reaching the Messenger service. You might be experiencing connectivity issues.

This error indicates that there is a problem connecting to Windows Live Messenger server due to connectivity issues. If you experience this frequently, it could be a networking issue that prevents you from connecting to Windows Live Messenger.

We are experiencing some technical issues with the Messenger service at the moment.

This error indicates that Windows Live Messenger service is experiencing technical issues. This issue should occur infrequently. If you see it often, it may be due to a networking issue that prevents you from connecting to Messenger.
