Connecting to a Target Device Over an Existing Named Connection (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/5/2010

In a named connection, you can store settings required to download a run-time image to a target device or to establish a kernel-level connection to the target device. For more information, see Creating a Named Connection.

With Platform Builder, you can create multiple named connections. The following procedure shows you how to load the settings for a named connection that you stored previously, and then, how to use those settings to connect to a target device.

To connect to a device over an existing named connection

  1. From the Target menu, choose Connectivity Options.

  2. From the Target Device box, choose the named connection that you created.

  3. Verify that the settings for the named connection match the settings that you stored previously, and then choose Apply.

  4. From the Target menu, choose Attach Device.

If you want Platform Builder to download a run-time image to the target device after connecting the development workstation to the target device, the target device must send a BOOTME message to the development workstation. The target device will send a BOOTME message to the development workstation when it is turned on. It also must be connected to the development workstation by using a serial or Ethernet cable.
