Installing Upgrade Advisor

Where you install SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor depends on what you will be analyzing. Upgrade Advisor supports remote analysis of all SQL Server components except Reporting Services. If you are not scanning instances of Reporting Services, you can install Upgrade Advisor on any computer that can connect to SQL Server, and that meets the Upgrade Advisor prerequisites. If you are scanning instances of Reporting Services, you must install Upgrade Advisor on the report server.

For more information, see Upgrade Advisor Prerequisites.

Installing Upgrade Advisor

Upgrade Advisor is available for installation in two ways:

  • From the redist folder of the SQL Server product media.

Run the SQLUA.msi file to install Upgrade Advisor.

  • As a download from the Upgrade Advisor Web site.

Upgrade Advisor is available as a self-extracting executable file from the Web site. If you select Open, you will be prompted to specify the location to extract the files. If you select Save, a Save As dialog box opens.

Uninstalling Upgrade Advisor

You can uninstall Upgrade Advisor by using Add or Remove Programs. However, uninstalling Upgrade Advisor requires .NET Framework 2.0. If you have already uninstalled .NET Framework 2.0, reinstall it before uninstalling Upgrade Advisor.
