Send an IM to one of your contacts.

The task presented here describes the steps that are necessary for one user (ToshM@contoso.com) to send an instant message to another user (LeneA@contoso.com).

The steps shown here assume that you have already created an application and have received a response that contains the HREF for an application resource. For more information, see Create an application.

  1. Send a POST request on the startMessaging resource, which can be found in the communication resource embedded in application. A POST request on this resource causes a messagingInvitation resource to be created and started in the event channel.

The sample shown here includes a request body with values for sessionContext, to, operationID, and other values. The "to" person is one of the contacts obtained in a previous step.
