Some Web sites and applications use dynamic parameters in one or more of their Web requests. Dynamic parameters can cause your Web performance test playback to fail. To avoid playback errors, you can add extraction rules to dynamic parameters in your Web performance test. However, before you add an extraction rule, you first have to locate dynamic parameters. For more information, see How to: Use Quick Find to Isolate Dynamic Parameters in Web Performance Test Playback.

To add an extraction rule from playback

  1. In the Web performance test playback in the Web Performance Test Results Viewer, select the Response tab.

  2. Right-click the text that you want to add an extraction rule to and select Add Extraction Rule.

    Note

You can isolate dynamic parameters in your Web performance test using quick find. For more information, see How to: Use Quick Find to Isolate Dynamic Parameters in Web Performance Test Playback.

The Web Performance Test Editor is displayed with the new extraction rule selected in the applicable Web request and is assigned a parameter value, for example 'Param0'.

  3. Expand Web requests and their QueryStringParameters folder to select dynamic parameters that use the new extraction rule you added.

  4. In the Properties window, click the down-arrow on the Value property and select the value created in the new extraction rule, for example 'Param0'.

  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for other QueryStringParameters values in applicable Web requests as needed.

    Note

You can jump on a parameter from the Web performance test playback window to the Web Performance Test Editor window to help you isolate playback issues. For more information, see How to: Jump to Web Request from the Web Performance Test Playback.

For more information, see How to: Resolve Web Performance Test Playback Issues Caused by Dynamic Parameters.
