The following list provides a brief set of definitions for important terms used in Report Builder. For more information about a term, see the topic provided.
Clickthrough Report
A report that is displayed when you click interactive data within a report in run mode. For more information, see Clickthrough Reports.Data Source
A metadata description of the data in a SQL Server database or SQL Server Analysis Services cube. It contains entities and fields that can be used in your report. For more information, see Choosing a Data Source (Report Builder 1.0).Entity
A collection of related data fields that uniquely identify an instance of the entity. For more information, see Entity (Report Builder 1.0).Field
An attribute of the entity that is a named unit of data that can be added to a report layout template. For more information, see Working with Fields (Report Builder 1.0).Identifying Field
A field or group of fields that identify an entity as a unique object. For more information, see Identifying Field.Report Item
Any object, such as a text box or report layout that exists within the report.Report Layout
The placement of fields and entities within a report, plus applied formatting styles. For more information, see Report Layout.Report Rendering
The action of combining the report layout with the data from the data source for the purpose of viewing the report. For more information, see Understanding Report Layout and Rendering (Report Builder 1.0).Report Server
