3 Structure Examples

This section contains examples of some of the most commonly used data structures in files in this file format. The examples are meant to be a starting point for an implementer learning the file format. They are not meant to cover all records in the file format.

The following conventions are followed for all of the examples, unless noted otherwise:

  • The order of the records, structures, and fields in the example match the corresponding order in the file format.

  • The examples begin with the first record relevant to the example and end with the last record relevant to the example. An example cannot be used as a complete and stand-alone file.

  • The examples are self-contained and contiguous. No records or structures are omitted in the middle of an example.

  • Undefined and ignored fields are not included in the field explanations.

  • Offsets for records and structures are omitted because these values vary, depending on how the files are created and on what optional records applications include in the files.
