Configuring Policies for Services and Operations
DCS provides a policy-based configuration architecture across user-defined services and client applications. You can use the DCS Management Services Console to configure policy for services and operations. DCS supports two types of policy; service-level policies apply to an entire service, and policy-level operations apply to individual operations in a service.
When a client application connects to a service, the client proxy uses a policy importer object to perform a WS-MetadataExchange operation to retrieve the policy configuration for the service and operations. The policy importer can then configure the client application to match the requirements of each policy specified by the service.
DCS provides several policies for common aspects of a Web services environment, such as security, message encoding, transport binding, and logging. In addition to this, you can create custom policies and add them to DCS. For more information, see Building and Deploying a Custom Policy.
