SqlFunctions.CharIndex Method (String, String, Nullable(Of Int64))

Returns the starting position of one expression found within another expression.

Parameters

toSearch
Type: System.String

The string expression to be searched.

target
Type: System.String

The string expression to be found.

startLocation
Type: System.Nullable(Of Int64)

The character position in toSearch where searching begins.

Return Value

Type: System.Nullable(Of Int64)
A Nullable(Of T) of Int64 value that is the starting position of target if it is found in toSearch.

You cannot call this function directly. This function can only appear within a LINQ to Entities query.

This function is translated to a corresponding function in the database. For information about the corresponding SQL Server function, see CHARINDEX (Transact-SQL).
