1.4 Relationship to Other Protocols

The Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) Proxy Protocol uses standard web protocols. To use this document effectively, the reader has to be familiar with the following IETF specifications.

  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) [RFC2616].

  • Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs).

  • Uniform Resource Locators (URLs).

URLs and URIs are used to describe the data used in the protocol.

The Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) Proxy Protocol uses Extensible Markup Language (XML); the following specifications are used to describe the requirements for the XML syntax involved in the protocol. To use this document effectively, the reader has to be familiar with the following W3C specifications.
