KeyGroups Property

Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2009

Sets the predefined key groups to which a key belongs.

After you have assigned a key to one or more key groups, you can selectively activate or deactivate the key by enabling and disabling the key groups.

Adding a large number of keys to a database table decreases performance. However, by making the keys members of predefined key groups you can have the necessary keys defined and only activate them when they are going to be used, thus improving performance.

To enable or disable a key group for sorting, do the following:

  1. Click File, click Database, and then click Information to open the Database Information window.

  2. Click Tables, and then click Key Groups. The Database Key Groups window opens.

  3. Enable or disable a key group by clicking the appropriate button.

It is difficult to get an overview of the keys and tables that are affected when you enable or disable a key group. To see which keys in a table belong to a key group, do the following:

  1. Open a table in Table Designer, and click View, and then click Keys to open the Keys window. You can now see the keys that have been defined for that table.

  2. With the focus on the Keys window, click View, and then click Show Column to open the Show Column window.

  3. In the Show Column window, click KeyGroups, and then click OK.

The Keys window now displays a KeyGroups column that lists the key groups that any of the keys in this table belong to.

To enable or disable a key, open the Keys window for the appropriate table and click or clear the Enabled field next to the key.
