1.6 Applicability Statement

The Active Directory Web Services: Custom Action Protocol is suitable for use when the implementer desires to retrieve and manipulate data stored in a directory service via an XML-based model. It is used to manage access to Active Directory data (setting and retrieving) which is not easily done via the other protocols specified in this documentation set, including [MS-WSDS], [MS-WSTIM], and [MS-WSPELD]. Examples of the capabilities provided by this protocol include retrieving and changing user passwords and retrieving information about the Active Directory domain and Active Directory forest.
