Walkthrough: Installing the Demo Version

Install the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Demo to gain experience with product features. Do not use a Demo Install as the basis for an actual deployed production environment.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Setup always installs all components that comprise the Demo on a single computer.

The Demo version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 includes:

Consider the following factors before you install and use the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Demo:

  • The Demo has not been tested to run side-by-side with previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. We recommend that you do not install the Demo on a computer that already has a previous version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV installed.

  • If you intend to use the Microsoft Outlook Add-In, install Outlook before installing the Demo.

  • You can install the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Demo on Windows Vista with User Account Control turned on or off. If User Access Control is turned on, right-click and choose Run as administrator to run the RoleTailored client.

To install the Demo

  1. Insert the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 DVD.

The Startup screen presents a set of options in sections entitled Prepare, Install, and Join the Community.

  2. Under Install, click Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

  3. Click Next to move past the Welcome screen.

  4. Click I accept to indicate acceptance of the license terms.

  5. Click Install Demo.

  6. When the installation is complete, click Close.

After installing the Demo, start the RoleTailored client from the Start menu. In Windows Vista, to run the RoleTailored client while User Account Control is turned on, click Start, and then click All Programs. Right-click the client, and, on the shortcut menu, click Run as administrator.

The demo database is not uninstalled when you uninstall Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. You need to remove it manually. See the "Removing the Demo Database" section in the topic Modifying, Uninstalling, or Repairing.
