Completing a test plan

When you have completed the tests in a test plan, set its state to Inactive. This prevents more tests from being run in this plan, but still allows the results of existing runs to be viewed. When the results are no longer required you can delete the test plan.

The default state for a test plan is Active.

You can also set the state to Inactive when you have created a plan but are not yet ready to run the tests.

To set a test plan inactive

1. In Microsoft Test Manager, choose Testing Center, Organize, Test Plan Manager.

   Select a test plan and then choose Open.

2. Choose State and select Inactive.

3. To save these changes for this test plan, choose Save in the toolbar.

While a test plan is inactive, you can view the test plan, view its test results, and edit its properties. You cannot run tests from an inactive test plan.

To delete a test plan

1. Warning

   If you delete a test plan, its test results and test suites will also be deleted. Consider setting it to inactive instead.

   Test cases are not deleted, because they do not belong to one plan.

2. In Microsoft Test Manager, choose Testing Center, Organize, Test Plan Manager.

3. Select a test plan and then choose Delete.
