Office Communications Server Archiving Service

The Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Archiving service consists of two components.

  • The Archiving Agent installed by default on each Office Communications Server.

  • The Archiving service itself, which is installed on a separate server with a SQL database for storing the logged messages.

Each archiving agent in a Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition pool dispatches messages to be logged to a Microsoft MSMQ (Message Queuing) queue. Along with the message, the Archiving Agent also sends a path to a separate MSMQ queue to be used for acknowledging receipt of the message. The Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Archiving service picks up messages from the queue and writes them to the SQL database. It acknowledges receipt of each message, using the MSMQ path specified by the Archiving Agent.
