This topic provides user-interface (UI) guidelines for using a signal-strength indicator in a Live Search application on a Windows Embedded NavReady powered device.

Guidelines

To reflect best practices, a Live Search application should display the strength of the IP-based Internet connection. Signal strength should be displayed to the user on any screen that displays Live Search content or Live Search menu options.

The signal strength should not be displayed as its raw value, and does not have to be displayed as a raw percentage. A graphical icon similar to cellular or wireless-networking signal-strength readings is preferred; for example:

In Windows Embedded NavReady, you can obtain the signal strength for the paired device that supports Dial-up Networking (DUN) profile by using the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) service.
