Create a bulleted or numbered list

You can quickly add bullets or sequential numbers to existing lines of text, or you can automatically create bulleted and numbered lists as you type. If you're creating bulleted lists for web pages, you can use any picture as a bullet.

Tip

You can set many other properties for a list, such as margins and text properties, by applying a style to the list or a particular list item. For more information, see Create a style.

If you selected Specify picture, click Browse and select a picture and click Open, and then click OK.

    • To create a custom numbered list, on the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering. In the List Properties dialog box, click the Numbers tab, and click a number style. To set the starting number, under Start at:, type a number, and click OK.

  2. For each item or line of text that you want in the list, type the text, and then press ENTER to add a bullet or number to the list.

  3. When you have typed the last item, press ENTER twice to end the list.

  4. To increase or decrease the indent of one or more listed items, put your cursor in the listed item or select one or more listed items, and then on the Common or Formatting toolbar, click either Increase Indent Cc295580.fdfcb740-0fa5-402d-8581-5ce6e11119ee(en-us,Expression.40).png or Decrease Indent Cc295580.a897951e-1c72-4b03-9e82-c8fc6ce347fe(en-us,Expression.40).png.
