Format the bold and italic buttons

By default, when you use the Bold button Cc295442.68cc25ea-8ea3-4b18-bc3f-b3a655bb92c3(en-us,Expression.40).png on the Common or Formatting toolbar, Microsoft Expression Web inserts a set of tags to format the selected text. The Italic button Cc295442.14988f4c-4d23-4078-ae62-a396b9955c37(en-us,Expression.40).png uses a set of tags. The and tags are the current standard for marking text as bold or italic. If you prefer to use the tags and tags instead, you can set an option in the Page Editor Options dialog box to change the behavior of these buttons.

To set the tags inserted by the Bold and Italic buttons

  1. On the Tools menu, click Page Editor Options.

  2. In the Page Editor Options dialog box, on the General tab, do one of the following:

    • To use the and tags, select Use and when using bold and italic toolbar buttons.

    • To use the and tags, clear Use and when using bold and italic toolbar buttons.
