Formatting toolbar
The Formatting toolbar provides many of the most common options for formatting selected text, such as font, font size, font weight, alignment, and color. The Font and Font Size boxes show the font and size of the current text including values that are set by a cascading style sheet (CSS).
In addition, you can use the Formatting toolbar to insert a horizontal line by clicking the arrow on Outside Borders and selecting Horizontal Line .
To show or hide the Formatting toolbar
- On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Formatting.
UI element list
Element | Definition |

Manage Styles button |
Displays the Manage Styles panel for working with styles in your CSS. For more information, see Manage Styles panel. |
Style box |
Shows the HTML formatting style that is used by the current selection and enables you to set the style. |
Bold button |
By default, uses a set of strong tags (<strong></strong>) to format text. You can set an option in the Page Editor Options dialog box to make this button use the bold tags (<b></b>) instead. For more information, see Format the bold and italic buttons. |
Italic button |
By default, uses a set of emphasis tags (<em></em>) to format text. You can set an option in the Page Editor Options dialog box to make this button use the italic tags (<i></i>) instead. For more information, see Format the bold and italic buttons. |
Increase Font Size button |
Increase the current font size by one increment, according to the increments listed in the Font Size box in the Formatting toolbar, up to maximum of xx-large (36 points). |
Decrease Font Size button |
Decrease the current font size by one increment, according to the increments listed in the Font Size box in the Formatting toolbar, down to a minimum of xx-small (8 points). |
Increase Indent Position button |
Increase the indent before the current paragraph. For more information, see Indent or add margins to text. |
Decrease Indent Position button |
Decrease the indent before the current paragraph. For more information, see Indent or add margins to text. |
Outside Borders button |
Adds a preset border. Click the arrow on the button to apply the border to particular sides of your item or to insert a horizontal line. If you want to add a custom border, use the Borders and Shading dialog box. For more information, see Set border, padding, and background properties. |
