Rearrange commands

By using the Rearrange Commands dialog box, you can:

  • Add, remove, group and rearrange commands on a menu or buttons on a toolbar.

  • Change the name, image, and keyboard shortcut of a menu command or toolbar button.

  • Reset toolbar buttons, toolbars, menu commands, and menus to the default.

Unlike other procedures you can use to change toolbars and menus, the Rearrange Commands dialog box is keyboard accessible.

Note

To make a change to a toolbar, first make sure the toolbar is visible.

To use the Rearrange Commands dialog box

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. In the Customize dialog box, on the Commands tab, click Rearrange Commands.

  3. In the Rearrange Commands dialog box, do the following:

    Use this

    To do this

    Choose a menu or toolbar to rearrange

    Select the Menu Bar or a Toolbar you want to change.

    Controls

    Select the control you want to change.

    Add

    Click to add a new control.

    Delete

    Click to remove a control.

    Move Up

    Click to move a control up in a menu or left in a toolbar.

    Move Down

    Click to move a control down in a menu or right in a toolbar.

    Modify Selection

    Click Modify Selection, and click one of the following:

    • Reset to reset the control

    • Delete to delete the control

    • Name to rename the control

      Type an ampersand (&) before the letter that you want as the keyboard shortcut.
    • Copy Button Image to copy the image for the control

    • Paste Button Image to paste the image for the control

    • Reset Button Image to reset the image for the control to the default

    • Edit Button Image to edit the image for the control

    • Change Button Image to choose a new image for the control

    • Default Style to reset the style of the control

    • Text Only (Always) to always display only text for the control

    • Text Only (In Menus) to always display only text for the control when it appears in a menu

    • Image and Text to always display an image and text for the control

    • Begin a Group to add a group separator bar

    • Assign a Macro to link a control to a macro

    Reset

    Reset the menu or toolbar you selected.
