Paint effects
You can apply any paint effects to an object or text.
For reference, here are three original objects that have no effects applied: a bitmapped image, a rectangle with a gradient, and a text object

Opening the Paint Effects list
To open the Paint Effects list
At the bottom of the Effects section, click the Add Effect

icon.Point to Paint Effects and click one of the live effects on the list.
The following effects are available from the Paint Effects list.
Accented Edges Simulates painting around the edges in your image. The settings are Edge width, Edge brightness, and Smoothness. Accented Edges has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Dark Strokes Simulates painting an image with high-contrast dark and colored paint strokes. The settings are Balance, Black intensity, and White intensity. Dark Strokes has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Dry Brush Simulates painting the image with paint on a dry brush. The settings are Brush size, Brush detail, and Texture. Dry Brush has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Fresco Simulates painting the image onto wet plaster. The parameters you can control are Brush size, Brush detail, and Texture. Fresco has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Paint Daubs Creates the appearance of painting the image by repeatedly daubing the paintbrush on the canvas. The settings are Brushsize, Brushtype, and Sharpness. You can create significantly different effects by changing the Brushtype. Paint Daubs has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Palette Knife Simulates painting an image by spreading paint on a canvas with a palette knife (or painting knife). The settings are Stroke size, Strokedetail, and Softness. PaletteKnife has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Spatter Creates an appearance of paint being spattered on a canvas. The settings are Spray radius and Smoothness.

Sponge Simulates daubing paper with wet paint on a sponge. The settings are Brush size, Definition, and Smoothness.

Sprayed Strokes Creates the appearance of paint or ink sprayed onto paper. You can control Stroke length, Stroke direction, and Spray radius.

Sumi-e (pronounced "soo-mee-eh") Creates the appearance of thick black and colored ink strokes on white paper. The settings are Strokewidth, Stroke pressure, and Contrast. Sumi-e has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Watercolor Simulates painting an image with watercolors. The settings are Brush detail, Shadow intensity, and Texture. This live effect is especially useful when you apply it to an object that also has a texture. Watercolor has little to no effect on vector artwork or images with very flat colors.

Water Paper Simulates the effect of drawing the image or object on a rough textured paper and then applying water to it. The settings are Fiber length, Brightness, and Contrast.
